10/10/2012 (Treehugger) - Another measurement of the massive greenhouse gas emissions from the expansion of palm oil plantations in Indonesia, expansion that often occurs at the expense of carbon-storing rainforest: A new study in Nature Climate Change projects that by 2020, palm oil plantations will emit over 558 million metric tons of CO2—more than all the emissions from fossil fuels burned in Canada.

10/10/2012 (New Europe) - Last September the European Commission admitted that it needs to revise its policy regarding biofuels since their use may involve certain risks. Plant based biofuels seem to have an impact on food prices at a global level and on land rights in developing countries. As a consequence, since Europe is Indonesia's biggest export market with 39% of total European biodiesel import in 2011 coming from Indonesia, the need to take further actions is immediate.
