Ant Communities More Segregated in Palm Oil Plantations Than Rainforest
22/03/2013 (Mongabay.com) - Ants are an important ecological group in both degraded and natural habitats. They interact with many other species and mediate a range of ecological processes. These interactions are often interpreted in the context of ant mosaics, where dominant species form strict territories, keeping other ants out. This segregation between ant species is well-documented in monoculture plantations. Now new research published in Ecography has shown that these changes are driven by the replacement of rainforests with monocultures and not the arrival of non-native species.

Dunkin’ Donuts Commits to 100% Sustainable Palm Oil
22/03/2013 (Triple Pundit) - Is this an excuse to eat more donuts? Another major food company joined the ranks of companies with commitments to buy 100 percent sustainably sourced palm oil. The company is Dunkin’ Brands Group, the parent company of Dunkin’ Donuts and Baskin-Robbins, and the New York state Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli made the announcement a few weeks ago. DiNapoli filed a shareholder resolution asking Dunkin’ Donuts to address the environmental problems associated with palm oil production. He withdrew the shareholder resolution, as a result of Dunkin’ Brands Group’s commitment. DiNapoli is the trustee of New York’s pension fund, which owns about $1.9 million worth of the company’s stock.

Soybean prices opened with a positive streak but lack of any fresh bullish trigger and larger supplies in the international market weighed on the sentiments at higher prices.
